While you may or may no be a fan, once again it’s my goal to try and get you excited for what I believe is the greatest sport of all time.
While I would love to talk about all 30 teams, I know the mild enthusiasts would get bored reading. So instead I will depict this season as a comic taking place in NBA CITY. There is a terror on the run and the people can only hope that their superhero comes to save them.
The Super-Villain: Miami Heat – In what may have been the most devious plot in sports history, Free-agent Superstars Dwayne Wade, Lebron James and Chris Bosh all made it seem like they were considering changing teams, falsely giving hope to cities around the U.S. The truth is they were planning on smacking all those cities in the face, because they now are all on the same team.
Last year we had some juggernauts, But this year we have the ultimate super villain team. Why villains? Because now they will take up 70% of basketball coverage on TV…. AND because they knew it all along that they would play together. Even with this knowledge, Lebron James held the hearts of Ohio in his hand on national television only to crush them in front of the world. The other two did the same to a lesser extent. These dudes are all friends, you can’t tell me they never talked about this in preparation for the future. It’s like telling your girlfriend that you will always love her, when you are actually planning on getting with another girl on the side. In addition to this malevolent action , great veteran role players joined the team taking less money than others had offered. Yes you heard it, athletes taking less money. What a concept!

But like all super-villains, they will not succeed. Guaranteed. While they may have three 25+ pt scorers, there is only so much time in one game. The ball must be shared and superstars will have to learn how to take a back seat to each other. I have no doubt they will be great. But a championship? No way! Not this year.
Here are some of the teams that will play they role of Hero in NBA CITY.
Ex-Villain: LA Lakers – You may be wondering how the Lakers could be considered a hero to anyone but Los Angeles fans. I equate them to the bad guy in stories that switches sides and joins the good guys to defeat the greater evil. You know similar to well… Actually I can’t really think of a comparison. But for Laker fans: Similar to what you did last year when you signed once hated Ron Artest in order to win a Championship. Not to mention the repeat offense of the same act this year by signing defender Matt Barnes. It’s a great strategy: Sign the players who can get under Kobe’s skin so they don’t bother him during the year. Genius Phil Jackson at work.
With the Heat taking the Slime-light, the Lakers have very few red dots on their forehead. A 3rd Title in a row is very likely.
Original Clark Kent and Company: Orlando Magic – Super villain threatening your team? Have no fear, Superman is here! Literally though. Dwight Howard “the Superman” is still in Orlando and last time I checked he isn’t going to give up being the best team in Florida so easily. While Young and fun-loving, this dude is no kid athletically on ...or off the court for that matter. When I work out in the gym I hope I leave one day with shoulders similar to Dwight’s. Some would argue otherwise but shoulders alone won’t defeat the Heat. The magic will have to rely on teamwork, the health of Point guard Jameer Nelson, and veterans Rashard Lewis and Vince Carter for them to contend for a title.
Don't Believe he's real? Watch this video at like 30 seconds.Veteran Heroes: Boston Celtics – Boston can be viewed as one of the original "Superteams". They set the foundation 3 years ago by pairing Sharpshooter Jesus Shuttlesworth, and “ Big Ticket” Kevin Garnett with Paul Pierce "The Truth”. Teams took note when they won the Championship in their first year and have tried to imitate their keys to success.
The big 3 are still together, and because of age they aren’t as feared as they once were, but the emergence of personally-hated Rajon Rondo gives them hope to be great. Oh and did I mention the addition of aging Shaquille Oneal and bouncy-ball Nate Robinson? Even with The NBA’s Green Monster, I never really considered them a contender…. That is until I saw this video and changed my mind.
(FYI:Music is unedited)
The Underdog: Washington Wizards – So the Wizards aren’t going to win the championship. But they have always been one of my favorite teams. The 5th worst team in the NBA last year, Washington’s season was marred by injuries, trades, and ridiculous player suspensions. With an almost completely different team than last year, The Wiz look to sneak under the radar on the foundation of 1st overall pick John Wall, and multifaceted big men: JaVale McGee and Andray Blatche. Oh and then there is Gilbert Arenas…
Still one of my favorite players ever. This year Gilb isn’t injured, He isn’t suspended (yet), and He isn’t his former alias Agent Zero. Once a heavily relied upon superstar, Gilbert's shoulders will feel less pressure as he plays the sidekick role to the players that have developed in his absence. As a fan of the Wiz I am excited, I believe they are going to make the playoffs and surprise a lot of fans. And if they don’t I’m sure Arenas will get fined or suspended for something he doesn’t really deserve to attract attention… oh wait he already has.

Heroes in Training: OKC Thunder – Oklahoma City is that new superhero that saves your life but then disappears and you have no idea what to call the person who just saved you. While relatively unknown to the masses, the Thunder are the hope for the future. Let me tell you, if the future isn’t now, its definitely soon.
You gotta love OKC though, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t. They are a bunch of young talented goofballs who outplay and out-hustle almost everyone and have fun doing it. Led by FIBA Worlds MVP Kevin Durant, and USA teammate, Russell Westbrook, The Thunder may surprise some people if they win the Championship.. But they won’t surprise me.
And that’s it yall. I apologize if I left out your team. But I hope they come out of no where and prove that anyone can take the form of superhero in the NBA. Who knows what players will thrive to stardom and wow and amaze us with rim rattling plays this year.
The pieces are in place, now we can just sit back and enjoy the show.
Will NBA CITY survive the threat of the Miami Heat? Tune in and find out next time you watch the NBA!
